Where we're going - After the sailing adventure

The sailing adventure will end at noon on Monday, May 10th. Due to flight schedules, we can't get back to Fiji until Tuesday. The continuing Travel Adventure is as follows: Monday afternoon - Fly from Vavu' to Tongatapu, the capital of Tonga (maybe we'll meet the King!). Spend Monday night at Keleti International Resort http://www.keletiresort.com/ Tuesday morning - Fly from Tonatapu to Nadi, Fiji... hustle off the plane to catch a noon catamaran ferry to the Liku Liku Lagoon Resort http://www.likulikulagoon.com/ . We'll stay in one of the bures in the picture above until its time to fly back to the states...

The Packing Marathon

So we have dozens of those 'space bags' which are great for packing up scuba suits and beach towels, but how do I vacuum them closed for the trip back??? Oh well, who cares - we've got 16 days until we have to figure that out.
So the scuba suits are vacuum sealed and there's lots of room for more stuff - I think this is the first trip we have ever taken with only 2 suitcases and room to spare - maybe I need to take more clothes, or . . . maybe I'll have to fill it with goodies from Fiji.

Where we'll be

Our destination for the sailing part of our adventure is Neiafu on the island of Vava'u in the Kingdom of Tonga. We arrive at 3:35 pm on Monday. After 29 hours enroute, I'm not sure that we'll do much other than eat dinner and fall into bed. We'll spend Monday night on the boat, which is a 403 Moorings, and head out to the first anchorage Tuesday after the briefing. From Tuesday through Monday noon, the plan is to sample the Tongan cruising life style....

Who are we anyway??

Liz & Bob

Tongan/Fijian Adventure

Liz & I have taken a number of sailing vacations. We've sailed the Chesapeake Bay, the windward islands of the Caribbean, the British Virgins, the Abacos, the Florida Keys, and Belize. But, except for our annual cruising adventures on the home waters of the Chesapeake Bay, we've not sailed without family and/or friends. So our trip to the South Pacific raises the adventure bar for us in several ways:

1. Its just us!!

2. Its a long ways away from home. Actually, we've never been any further west than Catalina Island, CA.

3. The language, customs, food, and geography will be unfamiliar.

Are we anxious? ... maybe a little, but I prefer to characterize it as being a little uncertain... Anyway we're also excited and looking forward to the adventure... Bob

Getting There - Ordeal or Adventure

If we leave Philly on Saturday at 11:20 AM and arrive at our final destination Vavau Tonga at 3:35 PM on Monday, how long are we actually travelling?

Well since we are crossing the International Date Line it seems that what appears to be 52 hours will be a mere 29 hours - layovers included! So how bad can it be, 7 flights 29 hours - let's go with adventure and see how it turns out :-)

’Ufi, Lu pulu and Feke

24 Days and the countdown has begun - realizing we are going to have to eat but how does one grocery shop for Tongan food from thousands of miles away and what the heck are ’Ufi, Lu pulu and Feke anyway????
